Poems

Because I feel that, in the Heavens above,
The angels, whispering to one another,
Can find, among their burning terms of love,
None so devotional as that of "Mother,"
Therefore by that dear name I long have called you-
You who are more than mother unto me,
And fill my heart of hearts, where Death installed you
In setting my Virginia's spirit free.
My mother- my own mother, who died early,
Was but the mother of myself; but you
Are mother to the one I loved so dearly,
And thus are dearer than the mother I knew
By that infinity with which my wife
Was dearer to my soul than its soul-life.

Analyzation- To My Mother by Edgar Allan Poe.
Analyzation- I think in Heaven.
The angels are whispering.
Among all love.
None as powerful as Mother.
By that name I call you.
You are more than Mother to me.
You filled my heart, when you died.
Letting me free.
Mother, you died so young.
You were My Mother.
You are the one I love so much.
You are dearer than the one I knew.
Just like my wife

Poetic Devices

In the Poem "To My Mother" written by Edgar Allan Poe

includes many poetic devices. One of which is sound, Poe uses

sound to describe his feelings about step-mother dying. Which

he loved more than his real mother who died early.

Another type is imagery which he uses to share

the emotions in further detail of his feelings about his mothers

death. Lastly he uses Figurative Language to compare what

he was feeling when his mother died. This was later in the

poets life, the same year he died.

Comparing

In " To My Mother" Poe uses all three devices to show more

emotion to his mother when she died, than his wife when she

died. I think that this is because the loss of his mother had a

greater effect on his life than his wife. Also because he had

experienced a death like this before in his case his Mother. In

this poem Poe did not use as much Figurative Language and I

think this is because he did not really need to further

emphasize this event, rather with his wife he didn't need it

because she didn't have an effect on the rest of his life, and the

same year she died he did too. The writing between the end

and Beginning poems by Edgar Poe are different because he

uses different vocabulary, and punctuation to show the same

thought, though.

Tone and Mood

The Tone difference is greater than the one in "Alone" because

in "To My Mother" he did not use Figurative Language to detail

the situation and it was the death of his mother which changed

his life significantly. As in "Alone" his wife wasn't a big change,

and he had to add Figurative Language to alter and change the

thought about this topic to create equal sadness about his

mother. The Mood difference is the same because they are both

deaths but have certain changes with the way he stated his

feelings.

Author's Voice

The Writers Voice is different in many ways like he uses

different punctuation like in "To My Mother" he uses more

commas, while in "Alone" he uses more semi-colons and

dashes.

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
        My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

Analyzation- Alone by Edgar Allan Poe.
I have never been a child
like others have. I have not seen
what others did. I could not bring
passion from a new beginning.
From the same place my sadness
has not left; I could not become
happy at the time;
all I loved, I loved alone.
In my childhood the dawn of
troubled life, I was helped
from every good and bad
the mystery confuses me still:
from aggression to calmness,
to the fall in my career,
to success in my writing,
just as life flew by me,
when Heaven was blue,
of a demon in my view.

Poetic Devices

In the Poem "Alone" written by Edgar Allan Poe includes many
Poetic Devices. One is Imagery creating a picture in the readers
mind of his emotions and feelings. So we know his struggles
and hardships better. Poe also uses figurative language to further
describe his emotions and give the reader the essentials to
really understand his point in this poem. This was at the start of
Edgars career and was mainly about his childhood.

Contrasting

In both poems Poe uses the devices Imagery and Figurative

Language, and they are both used to further detail information.

Like in these two poems they are both based on sad events one

after his mother's death, and then his wife's death. I think that he

also used these to show greater emotion about struggles in his

life. These poems do however have a lot in common, like the

same emotion, and context of his writing.

Tone and Mood

The tone in both of these poems is sad because they both talk

about the death of loved ones in Poe's life. Just like the tone the

mood is creating the atmosphere is sadness for the death of

 family.

Author's Voice

The writers voice is much more old and elegant form of poetry

like William Shakespeare. Between the two the voice is the

same because you find the same meaning through different

words that he has stated in the Poem.
